I have been writing, composing and performing songs for over 30 years and according to my friends, who I’m still inviting to dinner, I am one of Italy’s greatest singer-songwriters. From 1975, year of my debut release Ti scriverò, to 1982, there was, according to these same friends of mine, a stream of uninterrupted success. Some of my songs (Su di noi, Ciao, Lo devo solo a te, Forse, Firenze S. Maria Novella, Un amore grande and Gelato al Cioccolato, amongst others) have been played all around the world and translated into English, German, French and Spanish. Beyond the twenty million albums sold during my career, for which I took fewer receipts than were offered to me, I have received 11 Gold awards and won the “Golden Gondola” award in 1981 for my album Più di Prima. I appeared at four Sanremo Festivals (in 1980, 1983, 1984, and 1992) where I got up to all sorts of things: I got into trouble, had some success and some disastrous songs. I came up with a lot of rubbish but concentrated on more successful material which helped to kickstart the careers of some of my colleagues. Sarà perché ti amo, for example, which was performed by Ricchi e Poveri, sold millions. I have played everywhere: the Casa del Popolo in Ponticino, Madison Square Garden and Broadway in New York, the Maple Leaf Garden in Toronto, London’s Royal Albert Hall, the Sydney Entertainment Center, not to mention the Olympia in Paris and the wonderful theatres of Tallinn, Leningrad and Moscow and even Ulan Bator! When I got tired of singing, I became a TV personality and, after presenting “Domenica In” in 1989, made a return to the small screen in 1997 in “Quelli che il calcio” and, among many others, Discoring, Superclassifica Show, Va ora in onda, Torno Sabato, Porta a Porta, Milano-Roma, Maurizio Costanzo Show, Scherzi a Parte, Domenica In, and Gran Galà della Pubblicità, 30 ore per la vita (which I later presented) and I Gemelli. With a dirty joke on the Lotteria 2003 programme presented by Morandi, I even hit peak viewing figures of 48%. In 2004 I was a guest on the Canale5 show Buona Domenica, and in 2005 I was sent to Brazil as presenter (AND NOT CONTESTANT, even though they offered me more money) of the La Fattoria, the Canale5 show produced by Endemol. After all the money I’d lost on gambling I decided to make a few euros presenting a gameshow called Il Maloppo on Rai1 primetime with viewing figures that took everyone by surprise, and then Affari Tuoi. That nice man Aldo Grasso wrote in the Corriere della Sera that “Pupo has completed the most remarkable comeback in recent years. He has taken the chance given to him by TV and for the moment, has turned it into a huge success. His dodgy CV looks like becoming the career path of an artist.” Far from wanting to give all this up, I’ve just started on stage (and I’m absolutely loving it) with Il Grande Croupier which, since its opening dates at the Venezia Casino, the Teatro Filodrammatici di Milano and the Teatro Italia in Rome, has been acclaimed by critics and audiences alike. My dubbing debut is out in October in the dreamworks film Over The Hedge and “Live in the Supermarket” , my first DVD, is out in November, featuring a superb concert filmed in a supermarket. In January 2007, I’m presenting “La Notte del poker” on Sky Sport, Italy’s first televised poker championship. My website is www.pupo.tv .... Oltre ai venti milioni di dischi venduti nel corso della mia carriera artistica, ma spesso ho preso meno soldi di quanto mi spettavano, ho ottenuto 11 dischi d'oro e, con l'album Più di prima, la vittoria della Gondola d'oro nel 1981. Ho partecipato a quattro Festival di Sanremo (1980-83-84 e 1992) dove ho fatto di tutto: casini vari, successi e brani disastrosi. Pensando che erano brani scamuffi ho dato ad altri brani diventati inaspettatamente successi mondiali che hanno contribuito al lancio di molti colleghi come per esempio Sarà perché ti amo che con la performance dei Ricchi e Poveri ha venduto milioni di dischi. Ho suonato ovunque: dalla Casa del Popolo di Ponticino al Madison Square Garden e Broadway a New York, al Maple Leaf Garden di Toronto, dalla Royal Albert Hall di Londra, all'Entertainment Center di Sydney, nonché all'Olympia di Parigi, e non ultimi i meravigliosi teatri di Tallin, Leningrado e Mosca e udite udite UlaanBatoor. Quando mi sono stufato di cantare ho fatto il personaggio televisivo e dopo la conduzione di "Domenica In" del 1989, nel 1997 sono andato a "Quelli che il calcio" e in tantissimi altri programmi: Discoring, Superclassifica Show, Va ora in onda, Torno Sabato, Porta a Porta, Milano-Roma, Maurizio Costanzo Show, Scherzi a Parte, Domenica In e il Gran Galà della Pubblicità, la conduzione di 30 ore per la vita e I Gemelli. Con la barzelletta sconcia del leone, durante la trasmissione abbinata alla Lotteria 2003 condotta da Morandi, ho toccato il picco di ascolto con il 48% di share. Nel 2004 Pupo sono stato a Buona Domenica di Canale5 e nel 2005 ho fatto l'inviato (non il concorrente anche se mi davano molti più soldi) in Brasile per La Fattoria, il reality-show di Canale5 prodotto da Endemol. A un certo punto con tutti i soldi persi al gioco ho deciso di rifarmi guadagnando qualche euro conducendo Game-Show: Il Malloppo in onda nell’access prime time di Rai1 con un boom di ascolti inaspettato e Affari Tuoi. Scrive quel simpaticone di Aldo Grasso sul Corriere della Sera “Pupo compie il più formidabile comeback degli ultimi anni....il suo sciagurato curriculum rischia di diventare un percorso d’artista”. Per niente stanco mi butto anche nel teatro (mi diverte davvero molto) con Il Grande Croupier che riscuote, dopo le prime date al Casinò di Venezia, al Teatro Filodrammatici di Milano e al Teatro Italia a Roma, successi di critica e pubblico. A ottobre debutto come doppiatore di Hammy nel film della Dreamworks “La gang del bosco”, e a novembre esce “Live in The Supermarket”, il mio primo dvd di con un concerto da guinness dei primati girato all’interno di un ipermercato Coop. A Gennaio del 2007 condurrò “La Notte del Poker”, il primo campionato italiano di poker in televisione su Sky Sport. Il mio sito internet oltre questo è www.pupo.tv.
